For the first time, the Jameel Prize – an international award for contemporary art and design inspired by Islamic tradition – is being launched at a venue outside Great Britain.
The Jameel Prize 4 exhibition, organised by the Victoria & Albert Museum, London in partnership with Art Jameel is opening on June 8 at the Pera Museum, Istanbul, which marks a future rotation between the V&A and guest venues from around the world. For the Jameel Prize 4, over 280 nominations were received from countries as far ranging as Afghanistan, Mali, Puerto Rico and Thailand. A panel of judges, chaired by V&A Director, Martin Roth, selected 11 shortlisted artists and designers, among whom CANAN and Cevdet Erek are two artists hailing from Turkey.
